Job Title:  Account Manager

Location:  London
Degree:  Economics at Nottingham Trent University

Start date: February 2023

How did your career journey begin at Xperience?

My initial role at the beginning of 2023 was an internal sales position. New to sales and IT, I learnt all about sales processes – from procurement, IT infrastructure to speaking with customers. This came with a huge amount of learning from the rest of the sales team!

As part of my personal development, during my first 18 months of employment, I also completed a ‘Level 3 Sales and IT Apprenticeship’, which included not only fundamental sales and IT training, but project management, problem solving and meeting skills, which has made a significant positive impact on my progression.

What was your experience of the recruitment process?

My experience was through a recruitment company. This included going to an assessment day where we had to talk about our key achievements and then complete tasks in groups to show our team working skills. Following this, the recruitment agency put me in touch with Xperience, where I had an online interview, an in-person presentation and finally an online Maths and English assessment. Throughout the process the company was very friendly and transparent.

What does a typical day as an Account Manager look like?

No two days look the same as an Account Manager, which keeps work interesting as there is always something to learn. This can be a mixture of customer meetings, working with other teams in the business to solve problems, administrative tasks, strategic planning and training on product/sales knowledge. There is also a huge amount of teamwork that’s part of the day-to-day role, collaborating with others in the commercial team and helping where necessary. The variation of this roles keeps me on my toes and has provided me with some great experience, which I will keep developing, to help me meet my future career aspirations.

What skills does an Account Manager need?

As it is a varied role, Account Managers need to have a variation of skills, ranging from communication and building relationships, analytical and problem solving to understanding and decrypting technical issues.
